What a wonderful devotion! You are right, we have become a nation of consumers.

When garages are filled to the max with "stuff"...storage units are rented and filled again.

Did you know that when I was a little girl there was no such things as storage units. Most people had one car garages....they only needed one car garages...because they only had one car...and yes, it's true...people actually parked their car in the garage.

I live in a house that was built in the 1950's the closets are sooooo small.....because in those days ....that's all that was needed. You had a few outfits...2 pairs of shoes and you wore them till they wore out. Then you would go and replace them. Things are different today. Shop till you drop and then get tired/bored with what you bought and go buy some more. Donate the clothes and fill up the closet again.

Did you know that most thrift stores burn clothes..because they have so much that they are rotting in their storage facilities.....this is a sign of our consumer mentality.

This recession is God's way of changing people's priorities. The pleasure that things bring are temporary....only walking and serving the LORD brings lasting value to our life. It will also teach us as a nation to be thankful and content with what we have....instead of always wanting more.

Sharon SharesSharonSchuttehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08365211479757275845noreply@blogger.com
